Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. In 1992, she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an audience for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. She has covered several notable news stories throughout the years, including budget reform, tax reform as well as The Iran Contra affair. She travelled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
